THE SHACKSHAKERS
Saskatchewan born & raised musician Shawn Nagy formed the earliest SHACKSHAKERS in 1988. During the early 90s country music craze, they had appeared in over 100 of the top night clubs throughout Western Canada.
Shawn relocated to the USA in 1995 where the group kept busy for 50 weeks of the year at major clubs & casinos. They switched to a variety format in 1997 and current members Darlene Marie & Tom Henderson joined the group.
Their unique sound caught the attention of organizers of the Norman Petty Music Festival in Clovis, NM, and in June of 99 they received a standing ovation at the renowned Festival, home of Norman Petty Studios. The great response got them a headlining position at the 14th Annual Petty Festival in June 2000.
Their debut CD on the independent "Daddy-O Records" label was released in November of 2000. It featured such guests as: The Roses (sang backups on Buddy Holly, Buddy Knox & Roy Orbison songs), Billy Cowsill (of 60s family group The Cowsills), Steve Bloomfield of Matchbox (England) and other notable West Texas musicians. It received exceptional reviews & International airplay in 11 countries, and the group received coverage in world-wide magazines, such as Original Cool, Blue Suede News, Texas Music Monthly, Lubbock Magazine, Minnesota Street Rod Magazine and others. Shortly after, they signed a contract with Hepcat Records & Distribution out of California that made their CD available world-wide.
In August 2002, the group was chosen to back over a dozen artists including Grammy Award winner Tommy Allsup, Terry Noland, Sonny West and others for an upcoming Norman Petty Studios DVD documentary taping in Lubbock, TX.
In November 2004, The Rockabilly Hall of Fame recently listed 95 artists and individuals that they felt have made a significant contribution to rockabilly music in recent years, dubbed The 2nd Generation. THE SHACKSHAKERS were on the list!
