BILL HERSCHEBill Hersche began his musical career in Regina as a 3 year old playing the button accordion for small change. From there he graduated to the piano, bass, and lead guitar. As a teenager, he played rhythm guitar and sang in his first band, the Ro-dans. Bills early influences ranged from Hank Williams to Chuck Berry, but his all time hero was always Jerry Lee Lewis. Besides being an accomplished musician, Bill has also always been known as a showman.For many years, Bill Hersche performed and recorded with his band, Blue Train. He has two albums and twenty-five single releases to his credit. Fourteen of those singles made the Canadian charts and two were top twenty hits. Bill's music is currently finding new popularity on radio stations in Europe. Besides backing touring artists with his band, Blue Train, Bill also promoted many touring acts. One of the artists who he promoted, backed, and toured with in western Canada, was the great rockabilly artist, Buddy Knox. Together they played such hits as Party Doll, Storm Clouds, and other tunes that topped the charts for Buddy in the late fifties and early sixties. Although Buddy was originally from Texas, he spent a good portion of his life living and playing in western Canada. On February 14th, 1999, Buddy Knox, 65, passed away after a battle with cancer.HERSCHE, William (Bill) Basilius On Friday, June 10, 2011 Bill Hersche of Edmonton passed away at the age of 63 years. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; his children, Darren (Shara) Hersche, Allan Hersche, Darrell (Melanie) Hersche, Michael (Luella) Hersche, Billy (Kelly) Hersche, Brad (Donna) Matheos, Janice (Dale) Graff, Margot (Ron) Buryniuk; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Ambrose; two sisters, Annamarie (Jim), Dorothy. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton.
